Got Gas? NC Governor declares state of emergency due to gas shortage

Share

On Monday, Governor Roy Cooper declared a state of emergency, temporarily suspending motor vehicle fuel regulations to ensure adequate fuel supply supplies throughout North Carolina.

A recent cybersecurity attack temporarily shut down one of the largest pipelines in the United States. On May 7, 2021, the Colonial Pipeline system reported a ransomware cyber-attack resulting in the pipeline temporarily shutting down. The Colonial Pipeline is a primary fuel pipeline for North Carolina.

Today’s emergency declaration will help North Carolina prepare for any potential motor vehicle fuel supply interruptions across the state and ensure motorists are able to have access to fuel, Governor Cooper said in a release.

The Order received concurrence from the Council of State.

If you need to find fuel, GasBuddy.com is a good availability tracker app to find fuel or report if a gas station is out.
