Inmates in North Carolina prisons are testing positive for COVID-19

Inmates in North Carolina are testing positive for COVID-19.

An inmate at Johnston Correctional Institution in Smithfield and two at Neuse Correctional Institution in Goldsboro have tested positive for the coronavirus, according to Todd Ishee, the state commissioner of prisons.

Ishee also says an inmate at Caledonia Correctional Institution in Halifax County on Wednesday became the first inmate in the state prison system to have a confirmed case of COVID-19.

A few weeks ago, I started a petition on Change.org to ask Governor Roy Cooper to release non-violent offenders and those who have less than 30 days on their sentence to free up space.

Hearing this news is what I asked Governor Cooper to help prevent, please sir, please ma’am, sign this petition and share by clicking HERE.
